It takes more than beads to see these…

Either we’ve seen enough Mardi Gras or Mardi Gras has seen enough of us. Today we’re off to Texas. What an exciting few days here in New Orleans. Even through the first rains we’ve seen in weeks there were street parties, parades, more police presence than at a presidential inauguration and in most cases comical drunks. We had a chance to take a motorcycle ride to get stocked up on groceris. We toured some of the devastated areas where hurricane Katrina had hit. No surprise all the work yet to be done but the downtown has worked hard to revitalize.

Our trips to the French Quarter and Riverwalk areas were just plain fun. We even hit Harrah’s casino and if Tracy didn’t win on the penny slots! $100 for a $5 investment. She treated for the rest of the night. We hit yet another Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville restaurant.

In our past careers drunks were no surprise and dealing with them here was not a problem. Talking to the local police they still were polite but I wouldn’t trade places. Beads flying everywhere if you were willing to throw up your shirt or down your pants. Alas, no free beads for us or as Tracy said to one balcony gang…. “It takes more than beads to see these!!” and  alas, no one wanted to see mine…

Our campsite is located on a canal leading into Lake Pontchartrain away from the downtown area.  The park supplied a shuttle to and from downtown 3 times a day.  Now during hurricane season the park is usually under water, indicated by the levee wall just across the street. The workers are polite, the washrooms and pool are new and exceptionally clean as is the laundry facilities and on the water to boot. Quite the eclectic mix of RVer’s but first time we have met more than 1 traveling Canadian in any campground since we hit the east coast. Another family couldn’t all fit into their trailer and some slept outside on the picnic table. The photos give a rough idea of this weekend, wish you were all here!
